چکیده

Twenty wether lambs were individually fed for 84 days to study the effect of dietary lead on performance and mineral composit ion of selected tissues. The treatments included O, 10, 100, 500 and 1,000 ppm supplemental lead as lead acetate added to a practical diet. Increased dietary lead did not affect feed consumption, weight gain or feed conversion ratio. Hemoglobin, hematocri t and blood lead were not affected by dietary treatments. Lead concentrations were higher (P<.01) in liver, bone, brain and spleen when 500 and 1,000 ppm dietary lead was fed. High dietary lead also resulted in higher (P<.05) lead concentrations in kidney, heart and muscle. As dietary lead increased, zinc levels in heart and brain increased (P<.01) and iron levels in the brain decreased (P<.01). In a second study, six sheep each were assigned to diets containing either 50 or 1,000 ppm supplemental lead, respectively, to determine the effect of dietary lead on nutrient digestibility, nitrogen and lead balance. Supplemental lead did not affect nutrient digestibility or nitrogen balance. More lead was absorbed and retained with the greater intake but the percentage of apparent absorption and net retention of lead was not significantly different among treatments. (

The effects of different dietary levels of organic and mineral selenium on intestinal morphology and histopathological changes of liver tissue in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fry

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of organic and mineral sources of selenium on the intestinal morphology and also histologically changes in liver tissues of juvenile rainbow trout for 60 days. For this purpose, 1080 healthy fry fish (50±2.8 g average body weight) were randomly divided into 3 groups, including organic selenium (0.15, 0.30, 0.45, 0.60 mg. kg-1)...

Effects of dietary lead acetate and aluminosilicates on the antioxidative defense system of broilers’ muscle tissues

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of dietary supplements with lead acetate and aluminosilicates (ATN) on antioxidative enzyme activities and lipid peroxidation of the heart and skeletal muscle tissues of broiler chickens. Broilers were allotted to four diets including the control group, the Pb group, the aluminosilicate-ATN (antitoxic nutrient) group and the Pb+ATN group, i...

The influence of nutritional factors on lead absorption.

The nutritional factors which affect lead absorption have been studied. Synthetic diets of known composition were compounded to contain 0-075% Pb as PbCl2 labelled with 203Pb. Rats were exposed to lead for periods of 48 hr. The dietary intake was then measured and the absorption of lead determined by means of a whole-body counter. Lead absorption was increased by high fat, low mineral, low prot...

Effect of lead on thyroid function in sheep

The objective of this experiment was to determine the effect of long-term low-dose administration of lead (Pb) on thyroid function in sheep. In this experiment 10 healthy Iranian male sheep, aged about oneyear- old were randomly allocated into two equal groups of control (n = 5) and experiment (n = 5). Both groups were kept under the same conditions of food and environment. The treatment group ...

Absorption of Lead Ions by Various Types of Steel Slag

Steel slags are the by products of steel industries, which forms during reduction process of iron melting. The chemical composition of it changes depending to the melting procedure. Its mineralogical composition also varies based on the cooling procedure. Two different types of steel slag were used as absorbing bed for various concentrations of Pb2+ ions in the form of lead chlor...
